Presidio Heights is a quiet, affluent neighborhood just west of uber-elite Pacific Heights and just south of the Presidio. Here on these picturesque streets you’ll find large, highly desirable single-family homes in an eclectic mix of architectural styles, as well as a handful of stylish condos and flats. The area is bordered by Arguello Boulevard to the west and Presidio Avenue to the east, and heading north on either road leads directly into the Presidio and provides a quick path to the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin County.

The Presidio itself, a former military base that’s now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, offers hiking trails, playgrounds, a YMCA with tennis courts and a pool, several museums and restaurants, and even a bowling alley. As if that weren’t enough recreation, residents are also served by the popular Julius Kahn Playground, at the southern tip of the Presidio, and by the tiny neighborhood gem Presidio Heights Playground. For shopping and dining, there’s no better destination than Sacramento Street, where upscale fashion boutiques, mom-and-pop shops, and cafes abound. Another great option is Laurel Village on California Street, a shopping center that boasts two gourmet supermarkets, several restaurants and coffee shops, and other family-friendly businesses. © 2016 Maryann LoRusso
